Seeking employers for STEP 2022

We're looking for creative, cultural and tech employers in London to join STEP in 2022

STEP is a year-long shared training and employment programme co-designed with founding partners Bow Arts, Sadler’s Wells and UAL London College of Fashion. Our mission is to build collaboration between talented young east Londoners and creative, cultural and tech businesses, creating journeys towards inclusive growth and enabling access to careers. Our vision is not only for increased representation in the sectors, but for more sustainable career progression. STEP connects young people aged 18-30 in the London Boroughs of Newham, Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest with employers on their doorstep.

Through STEP, trainees are paid London Living Wage over a 12-month training programme to develop a diverse range of skills and creative approaches, building on their network across organisations and departments. Trainees grow as part of a peer network, take part in monthly professional development workshops, and are given space, time and investment to produce a collaborative project. Trainees are connected with a specialist industry mentor, take part in careers coaching and continue as part of a community after the programme.

The Good Growth Hub advises employers on the development of the training placement, facilitates local outreach, creates a shared talent-pool recruitment, and offers support and advice on creating inclusive cultures and good working practices. Our employer network of line managers and senior leaders share learning and support each other on their journey towards inclusive growth within their business.

We’re looking for London-based or facing organisations who are interested in developing and providing a meaningful entry-level training role within their businesses, committed to achieving change, increasing representation and paying the London Living Wage.

This year, we are growing the programme to offer up to 35 places for young people. Whilst we’re open to all types of creative and cultural organisations, we’re particularly keen to hear from employers who work within the following sectors:

  • Museums and Galleries
  • Dance, Theatre and Performance
  • Fashion and Design
  • Tech and Gaming
  • Film, TV, Radio and Broadcasting

There are a limited number of bursaries on offer from London Legacy Development Corporation and Foundation for Future London’s New Talent Future Leaders fund to support local businesses to pay London Living Wage (£11.05/hour). The level of funding (up to 15% of the salary and associated costs) is offered on the basis of the organisation’s size, turnover and alignment with the programme aims and mission.
