AND Schools  INSET: Visual arts and film - 10 December 2015

Join visual artist Alex McIntyre and filmmaker Rozi Peters for a day-long INSET exploring how visual art and film can be used in the classroom in and beyond their curriculum subjects. The day also includes a chance to network with a range of film and art organisations. Suitable for primary, secondary and special schools.

The session will be facilitated by Nimble Fish, creative producers and facilitators with extensive experience of helping to create the conditions for creativity in the classroom, and working with teachers to reconnect with innovation in their practice.

In this session:

Working with a variety of 2D media, artist Alex McIntyre will support participants to develop creative skills and nourish their inner artist in a fun and relaxed environment.

Filmmaker Rozi Peters will offer tips and strategies for using smartphones, tablets and other readily available equipment to tell visual stories that support teaching and learning. Participants are asked to bring their smartphone or a tablet to this session.

About the artists

Artist Alex McIntyre is a fellow at Digswell Arts and Co-Director of HertsCreation, a community interest company working with the arts as a means for learning and community engagement. Alex has worked with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities and is currently engaged as an Arts Award adviser and workshop leader for The Funky Pie Company working with young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and emotional and behavioural difficulties. She recently worked as Lead Artist funded by Arts Council England exploring the use of sculpture as a tool to empower young people.

Filmmaker Rozi Peters works in industry, community and education settings. Her films made with young people utilise animation, dance, music and set design, and she has a talent for supporting young people of all ages to shape simple ideas into dynamic outcomes. Rozi’s film works have screened nationally and internationally and she has been commissioned by The UK Film Council, The British Council and The Arts Council of Northern Ireland. Rozzi has art directed and assistant directed on a number of acclaimed dance films for the BBC and Channel 4.
