Cultural Ambassadors

Weekly skills development programme for Deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent young people.

Our Cultural Ambassadors programme is a weekly skills development programme for Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent young people, to develop their understanding of creative employment, and what opportunities are open to them.

The group take part in workshops, Q&A’s, visits and activities that develop their confidence and employability skills. The programme is a partnership with AFK, a charity who support disabled young people towards independence and employment. This year's sessions are run by Jo Paul, our lead facilitator, and supported by Phyllida Hickish and our Cultural Ambassador Alumni Assistant.

The programme’s four aims are:

  • To develop skills in creativity, communication, teamwork, problem-solving and independence.
  • To enable the Cultural Ambassadors to become leaders and role models.
  • To support readiness for future work-experience opportunities and employment
  • To enhance knowledge of the roles and opportunities available in the creative and cultural sector.

We're holding a taster day on Thursday, 26 June 2025, for Deaf, disabled, and neurodiverse young people aged 16-25 interested in joining our Cultural Ambassadors programme. This will be a relaxed creative workshop, a chance to meet the team and learn more about the programme.

Book your free place for our Taster Day

There are 10 places available for the Cultural Ambassador programme – an inclusive, free creative arts training programme where young people will meet weekly to learn about the creative industries, explore their own creativity, and plan their own event at the I Am Festival.
