Hampton Court Palace: The King’s Kitchens

Discover the home of Henry VIII. Admire the Great Hall and Tudor kitchens and discover the spectacular palace.

Bookings open at 8am on Wednesday 4 February 2026.

The King's Kitchen is suitable for SEND only.

About the offer

Explore King Henry VIII’s kitchens through song, object handling, costumes and sensory exploration. Pupils will find out about the workings of Henry VIII’s Tudor kitchens at Hampton Court Palace and discover how great feasts were organised and prepared.

The session is flexible according to the needs of your students but can involve: Singing a rhyme about exploring the palace handling replica objects; trying on Tudor costume (with an opportunity to wear this into the palace); a sensory tour around the Tudor kitchens where students undertake a ‘find the same’ activity; herb crushing activity using wooden pestle and mortar in situ in the kitchens.

This session is suitable for students with SLD and PMLD. Please note that the presenter will be in costume throughout, unless otherwise requested. The session is suitable for students aged between 6 and 18 years. This offer includes self-guided access to the palace before or after your guided visit.

Historic Royal Palaces

We are the independent charity that loves and looks after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world.

The palaces are the setting for the stories that shape us all. We want everyone to find themselves in the spaces and stories we share.

Through Primary Arts, schools can visit Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace or the Tower of London. Each palace offers two facilitated sessions, one for mainstream classes and one for SEND classes.

Every visit includes self-guided access to the palace before or after your guided visit.
