Creativity Works: Content Production Roundup

Celebrate the graduation of our latest content production programme, class of '20

1 February 2021

Over six-weeks, 25 young Londoners aged 18-24 took part in live classes all delivered online. The sessions were led by industry experts who helped the group upskill and develop their creativity.

After wrapping up the programme we wanted to spend some time reflecting on just a few highlights that took place during the 6 weeks course.

Throughout the weeks, we had amazing guest speakers. Photographer and Director, Leonn Ward and her assistant (and Create Jobs Alumna!), Steph Okoye, founder of Girls Like Us ran a session on how to get started as a professional photographer.

Leonn spoke about her journey working in a competitive industry without having any connections and gave the group pointers on how to stand out. Steph and Leonn also went through the method of casting for shoots with the ethos of representation, relatability, and realness.

The cohort also had a music video masterclass with director Nathan James Tettey and Untold Studios’ Head of Music and Social, Annie Ayres. They shared stories of their experiences working with big-name rappers like Dave, Headie One and Stormzy, and showed the kind of creative chemistry and friendship that can only come from spending hours together on shoots!

Taking a silver lining from delivering our sessions online, our new format allowed us to connect with speakers all over the world. Like when Sarah Small an American artist, photographer, singer, and film director who is currently based in Brooklyn, New York Zoomed in to give the group an inspirational talk.

Our alumna Cass Kyeyune also joined the session and shared great tricks of the trade with the participants on where to find the best projects.

Throughout the six-weeks, the cohort worked on a creative response to a brief from Reebok, ‘Write your Legacy”. Taking what they learned from the speakers as well as from one-to-one crits and feedback from each other, they developed their work and presented it back at a final pitch.

Here are some of the work created by our participants to Reebok’s brief:

Mei Ling Ya

'Going Back’

A short film about a young girl who feels split within her identity and goes home to  reconnect with her past and heritage. Special thanks to my mum for being in the  video.

Elli Siora

'Curious Courage'

Legacy feels like a heavy word that can’t apply to everyone - but look close enough,  and it’s your legacy that's been threading everything together.

George Charles

'Chapter 1'

The struggle of getting down those first few words.
