Barnet and Culture for Youth

Providing a rich cultural education for every child and young person in Barnet

By galvanising the education and cultural sectors in Barnet we will support collaboration and cohesion, ensuring greater access to high quality arts and creative activities for every child and young person in the borough. The partnership brings together 14 founding partners including artsdepot, Middlesex University, RAF Museum, Young Barnet Foundation, Barnet Education Arts Trust, Unitas Youth Zone, LBB Libraries and Schools Improvement Service and representatives from primary, secondary, SEN and PRU schools. B&CY also has 100+ members from across the arts, creativity and education sector in Barnet. The combined turnover of its partners is in excess of £250Million and they employ over 1,000 people working in the creative industries and arts education in Barnet.

B&CY places an emphasis on those that can have fewer arts engagement opportunities. Priority groups include those excluded from mainstream school, young people with special educational needs, home and faith educated children and young people. B&CY is committed to supporting diversity and empowering youth voice - our Young Advocates meet every other week to explore arts activism. B&CY operates a micro-grants programme supporting collaborations between artists and schools, and over 2022 we also secured funding to deliver 10 artist residencies in schools.

Autumn 2022 B&CY will publish a Cultural Education Strategy for Barnet that sets out themes of Engagement, Employability, Wellbeing and Advocacy and provides a table of goals over 5 years to 2027.
