First CREATE Programmers event - 20 March
First CREATE Programmers event - 20 March
03 February 2010
The CREATE Programmers are a group of inspirational young people from
across the 5 Olympic host boroughs, Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and
Waltham Forest, working alongside industry professionals to develop the skills and
confidence required to plan, manage and produce creative events
specifically for young people, as part of the CREATE festival.
A New Direction works in collaboration with Stepladder to connect them to mentoring and support opportunities from creative industry professionals and organisations in order to achieve this.
The event
On
Saturday 20 March 2010, the group will be producing their first music and dance event at
Newham Town Hall, with some exciting acts headlining including EMI's
Professor Green and
Eliza Doolittle. The audience will be an invited group of 400 selected young people from the 5 Olympic boroughs.
This is the CREATE Programmers' first event, and we have recently been awarded £10,000 from the
Big Lottery Fund
to progress the programme to its next phase, to develop more
high profile events as part of the official CREATE 2010 festival this
summer.
‘We are proud of where we come from and what our communities have to
offer. By representing the interests of our peers and showcasing where
we live, we aspire to reach out to young people across London. Our aim
is to share ideas, develop new opportunities and demonstrate that every
young person has an equal opportunity to achieve.’
CREATE Programmers
This event is delivered in partnership with Stepladder. Stepladder
is a way for Creative Industryexperts to share their experience and
knowledge with the Creative Industry experts of the future. Developed
by a network of organisations and freelancers, Stepladder has seen the
need to inspire and inform young people, schools, colleges,
universities, charities and community groups to better understand this
complex set of industries and how best to access them.
Visit the CREATE Programmers page to find out more about the programme, and keep up to date on developments.
