Westfield Hoardings up around Stratford station
Westfield Hoardings up around Stratford station
20 October 2009
This Autumn, the hoardings around Stratford Station in East London will come to life with artwork from the 'Story of Stratford', a two-year artist commission project with schools, supported by Westfield
Stratford City and managed by A New Direction.
Artist Helen Marshall
works with 7-13 year olds at Colegrave Primary
School and Stratford Secondary School to explore Stratford's past,
present and future, and how the regeneration of Stratford will change
the lives of the students and their families.
Comprising of 13 panels, the hoardings will cover the whole of Meridian Square combining artwork, drawings and photography by the young people involved in the project and Visual Artist Helen Marshall, referencing the shopping centre through its various stages of development. A montage shows the findings of a special archaeological dig facilitated by the Museum of London, and other explorations around the local area.
The Westfield Stratford City community art wall celebrates the diverse
range of community art projects and creative talent in Stratford and
the London Borough of Newham. They mark the borders of the construction site where a new retail landmark is being built.
In 2011 Westfield Stratford City is set to transform London’s retail landscape, inspired by East London’s creative spirit. At 1.9 million sq ft Westfield Stratford City will be the largest urban
shopping centre in Europe and the prestigious gateway to the Olympic
Park.
