CREATE Jobs Employer Forum at Space Studios
CREATE Jobs Employer Forum at Space Studios
18 January 2012
This week the Office for National Statistics released the latest national unemployment figures which showed a further rise across the country; the headline number for youth unemployment was at 1.04 million. More locally, in the Olympic Host Boroughs (Barking & Dagenham, Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest), nearly ten per cent of 16-24 year olds are unemployed compared to 5.5% in the remaining 27 boroughs. See the Guardian’s interesting
youth unemployment map.
What are we doing about it?
A New Direction in partnership with CREATE has developed a programme called
CREATE Jobs which provides pathways for young people in the Olympic Host Boroughs to access information, advice and guidance needed to progress into jobs within the arts and creative industries. We want to see a step chance in how the sector works with young people and we would love more organisations and employers to get involved.
On Thursday 26 January, 4 - 6pm at Space Studios, we are hosting our next Employer Forum. These are monthly meetings where we describe the programme and discuss the different ways employers and practitioners can help young people in this area. Our agenda will cover the following:
- Eight week mentoring programme
- Eight week traineeships
- Two week work placements
- Year long apprenticeships
