Our role as lead 'Bridge' organisation for London
Our role as lead 'Bridge' organisation for London
In April 2011, Arts Council England announced a new national network
of ‘Bridge’ organisations, to ensure all children and young people
experience the richness of the arts both in and outside of school.
These organisations will provide a direct ‘bridge’ between the work of
arts organisations, schools and communities.

In London,
A New Direction is the lead 'Bridge' organisation, coordinating and working in collaboration with four Bridge Associate organisations:
Apples and Snakes
Lyric Hammersmith
Roundhouse
Sadler’s Wells
Together, we will work to support the Arts Council’s National Portfolio Organisations and the wider sector in their delivery of consistent, quality artistic and cultural opportunities and provision for young Londoners. We will act as champions for
Artsmark and the
Arts Award in London, maximising these as key tools for schools, arts organisations, local authorities and other partners.
We will use existing information to create snapshots of the widest possible cross-section of provision and opportunities across the capital, which will illuminate good practice and highlight areas for further development, which we will aim to support. Building on the legacy of the Creative Partnerships and Find Your Talent programmes, we will ensure that existing knowledge and networks are shared.
We will not necessarily directly deliver arts opportunities for children and young people, but will support, connect and promote consistency across the sector, creating a step-change in improving quality opportunities and provision.
A New Direction will start the Bridge role in April 2012, in the meantime we are very keen to hear the views of all those with an interest in the cultural life of young Londoners – as well as the views of young Londoners themselves. We are particularly interested to talk to local authorities and discuss our joint priorities and challenges.
How can we best connect all young Londoners to the rich and complex cultural opportunities available in the city? Please go to the survey on our website and give us your feedback, or email Holly Donagh at A New Direction to find out how you can get involved.
