A Vision of London

About

Millions of people from around the world will visit London in 2012, some for the very first time and others as seasoned travellers. This project set out to ask, how can London’s young people represent themselves, and the city in which they live?

Each participating London school was twinned with one or more schools in the south west of England, to explore ways of representing their schools and where they come from. A small group of London students and teachers visited their ‘twin’ schools in the South West. Students then partnered with a variety of practitioners from different art forms to develop creative work that best described their school, area and city, and this was presented either in person or online to their ‘twin’ school.

The schools:

Barnet
The Ravenscroft School
– students decided to launch a ‘Ravenscroft’s Got Talent’ competition. They judged their peers’ creative presentations of their school and area and fused various ideas in order to make two music videos with filmmaker Justin Allder.

Havering
St Alban’s Catholic Primary School
– collaborated with Cloth of Gold to create a new textile work which will be exhibited at the school in September.

Lewisham
Kender Primary School
– pupils explored their school’s environments and  children’s books to create two animations with Salmagundi Films.

Tower Hamlets
Bethnal Green Technology College
– students explored east London’s  environments with filmmaker Savinder Bual, producing a 3 minute film with accompanying verse.
