Why are you interested in being a CREATE Programmer?
I am interested in working with the CREATE Programmers as I often go to
events whether it be directed towards the art fields (art, music,
dance) but I also attend sporting events on a regular basis.
By joining this programme, I am able to gain an insight to how events
are put together, behind the scenes. I am able to meet professionals
directly involved with the events business who are willing to pass on
their years of experience, which will serve me well in the future.
Most importantly, by getting involved in this project it has
highlighted the lack of events, particularly for young people in my
borough, Waltham Forest. This programme enables me to put on events as
part of the CREATE Festival to encourage people to perhaps experience
other low key events for young people in the other Olympic Boroughs.
I am an A-Level student, studying English Language, Biology, Art and
Physical Education. My favourite subjects are Art and P.E. I am
constantly involved in sports and play, coach and umpire basketball,
netball and football. I play and train for Redbridge Ladies, a local
football team. I would consider art and P.E. my favourite subjects
because I feel confident performing these successfully and I believe
these fields inspire the younger generation to become more. They are
able to express themselves in a way not possible in any other
subjects. With art, it inspires them to try out different art forms
such as music, theatre or dance. This is what I feel inspires me.
Within Waltham Forest, I feel there is not much that is going on for young people. There is however, Epping Forest, a place where I go on a annual bike ride with my family in the summer. There is also the Queen’s Hunting Lodge, which I have visited twice as
part of school trips. Here was where Queen Elizabeth I hunted deer and
other animals as a past time.
There is also the William Morris Gallery based in Walthamstow. I have
visited here once and I didn’t particularly enjoy it, but it is
commonly visited as a tourist attraction.
Waltham Forest was the birthplace of David Beckham, and I myself have
met him in person at the launch of the David Beckham Academy at
Greenwich in March 2005.
