Ideas for getting involved

Click here to register for the competition

SHINE is a national event which last year saw over 1 million young people and over 2,500 schools and organisations taking part.  Schools across the country used the festival to highlight the fantastic creative achievements of their young people and a huge and diverse range of activities helped to celebrate these.

Shine is an opportunity to showcase all sorts of talents and skills, and you don’t have to plan anything additional to take part.

Register and show off your talents

  • Register and upload your own content onto the Shine website to show off the talents within you school
  • You could also invite local press to cover your event - download the SHINE Media Kit, Press Release and Photocall Notice templates below for guidance and ideas

  • You may already have a certificate giving assembly – why not give out some Shine certificates at this?  You’ll receive some in the goody pack that will be sent to you once you register.  You could ask each class to nominate a student that they think has shone over the last year.

  • If you have any events taking place that week (for example: Sports Day or an art exhibition), why not brand them as a Shine event and upload some images or work to the Shine website

  • Have you got anything you could share from your Creative Partnerships project?  For example. If you made a film, you could arrange a screening for parents and carers

  • Find the ‘hidden talents’ in your staff team – perhaps you have a member of staff who has an unexpected gift to share with the school...?

  • Have a debate about how your school defines ‘talent’ – you can share this on the Shine website

  • Make a 'what we are great at' wall with pictures and work gathered from the last academic year, or each pupil could make their own picture to show what they are great at and then display them around the school

  • Create a shine newsletter by cutting and pasting from previous newsletters to show the highlights of the last academic year
